Places and areas

Compare sites side by side

Two or three spots measured the same way, one column each, the best of every row marked and the best site and why.

Open it in the app

On Results, Map, press Compare sites and click two or three spots on the map (drag a pin to move it, the x on its chip to remove it). You can also add a result with Compare on its card, press Compare sites on the Map explorer, or ask Ask xMap, for example compare Camden High Street and Soho Square for a cafe.

Press Compare: it says what it costs first (worked out from each block’s own price, at most that, usually less). Press Compare them and every site is measured the same way:

  • People: who lives within 10 minutes by car, and how many people there are for each place of your kind.
  • Competition: the places of your kind within 1 km (the kind xMap remembers for your company, else restaurants), how many are chains, their average rating and how many opened in the last year.
  • Getting there: the road speed now, the nearest train or metro station, bus stops and car parks within 1 km, and EV charging stations within 2 km.
  • Around it: schools and supermarkets within 1 km, from OpenStreetMap.
  • Risk: natural hazards within 100 km in the last 30 days, the nearest river against its own past year, the sea near a coast, and the air quality now.

Each figure sits in a column per site and the best value of each row is marked Best (higher is better for people and access, lower for rivals and risk; each row says which). At the top, Best site says which site wins and why, in a sentence or two. xMap AI writes it from the figures on the page and nothing else (a sentence with a number the page does not show is not used); when xMap AI is not available the same sentence is worked out from the figures, free.

A map shows every site with its number, its 1 km circle and the rivals around it. PDF downloads it with your logo, Share a link makes a public page (no name or email on it, listed under Settings, Shared links, where you can stop it) and Hire an employee to watch them starts a Rival watcher, an Opening watcher or a Road watcher on a 1 km circle round each site.

Only live searches are charged. Sample figures (where live data is not switched on) and estimated travel areas are free and said so on the page. A block xMap has switched off is left out of the comparison and its price.
