Floods and sea conditions
Floods and sea conditions watches the water around your places: the biggest river near each one, with its flow for the days ahead against the same river’s past year, and near a coast the waves, swell and sea temperature. Use it to warn a team before a river runs high, to plan work at a port, or to check the sea before a shipment or an event by the water.
In the editor: River floods and sea conditions for up to 7 days (Open-Meteo, from the European Copernicus services): the biggest river near each place with its flow against the same river’s past year (Normal, Above normal, High, Very high), and near a coast the waves, swell and sea temperature. For each incoming place it adds both; for cities, a point or the Area of interest it lists them day by day.

TextLook for a river within
Pick oneThe river model works on a grid of about 5 km, and a place rarely sits on its river’s own square. The block looks at the squares around each place and watches the biggest river there; a small stream does not count.
The biggest river within that distance of each place is the one watched; a small stream does not count.

Each incoming place, or Automatic when places come in.

How to use it
Rivers rising: an early flood note
Every morning the rivers around three cities; when one will run above its usual level, a plain note for the emergency team.
Rough seas ahead at our ports
The waves off each port for five days, and a note when pilot boarding and small craft will be hard.
Warehouses near rising rivers
A logistics company in Germany has forty warehouses, several near the Rhine and the Elbe.
Before: They heard about high water from the news.
With the flow: Stock is moved up days before the river peaks.
Insured sites near swollen rivers
An insurer in Toronto checks the rivers near its commercial policies every morning.
Waterfront events and the sea
A beach festival is moved or secured before rough seas arrive.
Farms by the river
Livestock and machinery move to higher ground in time.
Surf and sea for guests
Guests know the sea before they head out.
Offshore work windows
Crew transfers are planned on the calm days.
Good to know
- 2 credits for each place or location checked, at least 12 a run. Places closer than about 2 km share one check.
- These are forecasts from global models (GloFAS for rivers, Copernicus for the sea), not river gauges or official flood warnings: use them to plan, and always follow your authorities’ warnings.
- A river is judged against its own past year, so a big river and a small one can both be High.
- Small streams and local flash floods are too small for the global model.
- Sea conditions come only from the sea near the place; a place more than 25 km inland says Inland: no sea nearby.
- Add Natural hazards for floods already happening, as reported by GDACS.
Works well with
- Filter: Keeps only the items that match a rule.
- Email: Sends one email per run with all the items, or one email per item.
- Show on a map: Shows the results as points on a map, with the area of interest.
- xMap LLM: Tell the AI what to do in plain words.
- Natural hazards: Natural hazards happening now around your places, in an area or anywhere in the world: earthquakes (USGS), floods, tropical cyclones, volcanoes and droughts (GDACS, the UN and European Commission’s disaster alerts) and wildfires seen by satellite (NASA FIRMS).
- Weather forecast: The weather forecast (Open-Meteo, from national weather services) for up to 16 days: temperature, rain, wind and UV.

Help articles
- Watch rivers and the sea near your places: The nearest river against its own past year, and the waves near a coast, for up to 7 days.
- Compare sites side by side: Two or three spots measured the same way, one column each, the best of every row marked and the best site and why.
