Nearby places
Nearby places looks in xMap’s own places database, more than 300 million places refreshed every month, for the places of a type around a point: restaurants, cafes, pharmacies, hospitals, gas stations, gyms, banks, hotels, schools and more than 5,000 other types. Put it after your own places to find what is around each one, or to count it: the competitors around a store, the cafes near a site. Every place comes with its distance, brand, whether it belongs to a chain, its rating and reviews, when it opened, a traffic score and how long people stay.
In the editor: Places around a point from xMap’s own places database (300M+ places, refreshed every month): pick the types of place (more than 5,000, such as Restaurant, Cafe, Pharmacy, Hospital or Gas station, or a whole group of them) and how far to look. Each place comes with its distance, brand, whether it is part of a chain, its rating and reviews, when it opened, a traffic score and how long people stay. Around each of your places it can count them instead: the competitors around a site.

How to use it
Competitors around each store
A pharmacy chain wants to know, for every one of its stores, how many other pharmacies are within 500 m and how close the nearest one is.
Counting keeps your stores as the items, so the email lists each store with its own numbers, and a store that suddenly has more competitors stands out.
Score a site before the visit
A broker sends candidate sites through a webhook; each one is scored by what is around it before anyone drives out.
Nearby places and Demographics together say how much demand and how much competition a site has, and xMap AI turns them into one score with a reason.
Independent cafes worth calling
A coffee roaster sells to independent cafes, not to chains, and wants the well-rated ones near its delivery area.
Chains filters out the cafes that buy centrally, and Only new keeps the sales team on places it has not called yet.
Where a new clinic is missing
A heat map of every medical center shows the neighbourhoods with few of them, the places to look at first.
Merchants around each branch
A payments company wants the shops and restaurants near each bank branch to offer them card terminals.
Around each branch, every place found keeps near (the branch) and its distance, so the field team visits them branch by branch.
What is around each hotel
The counts and the nearest place of each type give xMap AI the facts for a short, true note about each hotel’s surroundings.
Gyms opening near our clubs
Only new remembers every gym already found, so a gym that appears in the database near a club is reported once, the day it shows up.
The neighbourhood of a campaign
The traffic score and how long people stay say which places nearby get the most visits, the partners worth asking first.
Good to know
- The data is xMap’s own places database, refreshed every month (each place says when it was last checked). It is not a live search of online maps: for places that opened this week, use Map business scan.
- Types are the database’s own names, more than 5,000 of them in about 500 groups, such as Restaurant, Coffee shop, Pharmacy, General hospital or Gas station. Pick them from the list as you type, or a whole small group such as Gas Station (all 6 types); common words such as cafes, hospitals, petrol stations or salons are turned into the right types. Up to 12 types a block, groups opened up.
- A word that is not in the list is searched as written and usually finds nothing; the block says which words are not in it. Each type is one search for each place or point, so a group of 6 types is 6 searches.
- Leave Types of place empty to find every kind of place: one search for each place or point, nearest first, each place with its own type.
- One search is one type around one place or point, up to 25 km and the 500 nearest. Around each incoming place: up to 100 places a run and 200 searches. When a search reaches its 500 nearest, the step says there may be more.
- An Area of interest is searched from the middle of each city or area to its edge, at most 25 km and 8 areas; only places inside the area itself are kept. For a whole country, draw the part you need.
- Credits are per search sent, plus a small amount for each place passed on. Counting passes on no places, so it costs only the searches. A search that fails is not charged.
- Places marked closed are left out unless you switch off Only places that are open.
Works well with

- Demographics: Who lives in an area: the number of residents, men and women, and nine age groups, from xMap’s population grid (hexagons of about 0.1 km², about 100 countries).
- xMap LLM: Tell the AI what to do in plain words.
- Show on a map: Shows the results as points on a map, with the area of interest.
