Filter
Filter keeps only the items that match one rule, and the rest stop here. The rule compares a number (rating, reviews, fit score, footfall per day, road speed or jam factor, rain, maximum temperature) or a text (category, city, or any field an earlier block adds). What goes on is the same items, unchanged: only fewer of them.
In the editor: Keeps only the items that match a rule. The rest stop here.
Settings
Field
Pick oneWhat to compare. The first nine are numbers (A number field is any field by its name, compared as a number); Category, City and Another field are text.
Pick from 35 choices.
Field name
TextA field an earlier block adds, as named in the test run results. For example one of the fields your xMap LLM block adds.
Needed before the flow can run.
Is
Pick oneHow to compare a number: at least, at most, equal to, or not equal to the value.
- at least (≥)
- at most (≤)
- equal to (=)
- not equal to (≠)
Is
Pick oneHow to compare a text: is (exactly, after ignoring capitals and accents), is not, or contains.
- is
- is not
- contains
- has a value
- is empty
Value
A numberThe number to compare with, such as 4 for a rating or 70 for a fit score.
Needed before the flow can run.
Value
TextNot case-sensitive. Separate several values with commas to match any of them.
Needed before the flow can run.
What comes out
Each item that leaves the block carries these fields, to use in the blocks after it as {{field}}.
Every item that passes
Filter adds nothing and changes nothing: the items that match go on with all their fields.
name: Unchanged, as it came in.rating: Unchanged. Here, the field the rule looked at.every other field: Every field the earlier blocks added comes along.
How to use it
New outlets to CRM
Keep good fits (Rating at least 3.8) sits right after Only new, so the reps and the CRM only hear about well rated outlets.
Only strong prospects reach the CRM
A software reseller in Madrid scores every new clinic and pharmacy with xMap AI each morning, but only wants the strongest ones in HubSpot.
Before: Every new place went to the CRM and the team spent mornings cleaning it.
With the flow: Only places scored 70 or more arrive, each with the reason it scored well.
Rain alert for my city
The filter Only rainy days uses Another field: rain_expected is Yes, so the email goes out only on days rain is forecast.
Well rated hotels in three cities
A travel agency builds a shortlist of hotels rated 4.5 or more in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Muscat for a corporate client.
Only the closures that touch my routes
A courier company only wants road closures, not roadworks, on the morning briefing to its drivers.
A text rule on Category keeps one kind of incident. Commas let one rule keep several, such as Road closure, Roadworks.
Only cargo ships entering the port
Another field compares any field by name: here ship_type from Ships (AIS), so the port team hears only about cargo ships.
Sites with enough people around
A developer checks candidate plots against footfall before visiting them.
Before: Every plot got a site visit.
With the flow: Only plots above the threshold get a visit. Footfall is people-hours of presence, not unique visitors, and covers a few cities so far: a plot with no data yet says so and is not kept.
Two rules: chain two filters
An agency scans two cities for cafes but only wants the ones in Toronto rated 4 or more on this week’s client sheet.
Each Filter holds one rule; two in a row keep only items that match both.
Good to know
- One rule per Filter. Put two or more in a row when an item must match several rules; for one rule or another, use commas in a text rule.
- Text rules ignore capitals, accents and spaces at the ends: cafes matches Cafés.
- An item without the value (no rating, not scored yet) does not pass a number rule. With is not, an item without the text passes.
- If none of the items has the field, the step fails and says which block brings it, instead of quietly keeping all or none.
- Another field compares text (is, is not, contains). To compare a number of your own, such as a distance or a chance, pick A number field and type its name.
- To keep both sides, use Branch: it sends the items that match one way and the rest another.
- Filter is free and runs the same in the editor’s preview and in real runs.
Works well with
- Branch: Splits items in two.
- Sort and limit: Puts the items in order, and can keep only the first ones: the 10 best rated, the 20 nearest, the highest fit scores.
- Calculated field: Adds fields worked out from the others: a number, a text or a yes/no.
- xMap LLM: Tell the AI what to do in plain words.
- Only new: Lets through only the items this flow has not found before, so a daily flow sends only what is new.
- Map business scan: Finds businesses on online maps live: name, category, rating, address, phone, website and whether it is open.
- Weather forecast: The weather forecast (Open-Meteo, from national weather services) for up to 16 days: temperature, rain, wind and UV.
- Remove duplicates: Keeps one of each item when the same one arrives more than once, for example from two searches that overlap.
