Map business scan
Map business scan searches online maps, live, for the businesses you ask for: cafes, pharmacies, gyms or your own search words. Point it at a city, the Area of interest before it, a circle, your own boundary, or the places that reach it from earlier blocks, and search it quickly at its centre or cover the whole area with a grid of searches. Every place comes back with its name, category, address, phone, website, rating, opening status and position, ready for the next blocks to filter, score, send or put on a map.
In the editor: Finds businesses on online maps live: name, category, rating, address, phone, website and whether it is open. Put Only new after it to get just the places it has not found before.
Settings
Categories
Pick one or moreThe types of place to search for. Pick one or more, or none when your own search words say it all; each one is a separate search.
- Restaurants
- Cafés
- Bakeries
- Grocery
- Supermarkets
- Pharmacies
- Gyms
- Hotels
- Clinics
- Salons
- Retail stores
- Fuel stations
Also search for
TextWords of your own, searched the same way as the types above, for what the list does not have: a brand, car dealers, banks, schools. They can be the whole search.
Your own search words, separated by commas, searched like the categories. Categories, search words or both.
Where
Pick oneWhere to search. The choices below change which settings come next.
Uses the Area of interest block before this one.
- Area of interest
- Cities Search the cities you type in the next setting.
- Around a point Search a circle: a point and a radius.
- Around each incoming place
- Custom area (GeoJSON) Search inside your own boundary.
Cities
A list you typeThe cities to search, by name. Each one is searched within about 12 km of its centre.
Pick from 51 choices.
Center (latitude, longitude)
TextThe middle of the circle to search, as latitude, longitude.
Look for
Pick oneFinds places of the categories above around each incoming place.
- Places of these categories
- Each place itself
Radius (m)
A numberHow far to search, in metres: from the point, or from each place that comes in.
Needed before the flow can run.
Pass on
Pick oneThe places found near the incoming ones go on: what opens near your stores.
- The places found
- Each incoming place, with a count
Area (GeoJSON polygon)
Text, several linesYour own boundary, pasted as a GeoJSON polygon. Only places inside it are kept.
How to search
Pick oneHow thoroughly each area is searched. Online maps list a limited number of places for one search, so one search at the centre of a big city finds the places there first; a grid of searches finds the places across the whole area.
One search at the centre of each area: quick and cheap, but in a big area online maps list only the places they show first.
- One search per area (quick) One search of each category at the centre of each area: the cheapest, and enough for a small area or a few results.
- Cover the whole area (thorough) A grid of search points across each area, each searching every category: a whole city or a drawn district, edge to edge.
One search every
Pick oneHow far apart the grid’s search points are. Closer points find more where there are many places, and cost more searches.
Closer points find more places where there are many. Automatic picks the closest spacing the search limit allows; a spacing that would need more searches is widened, and the step says so.
- Automatic At least 500 m apart: one call when the points are then 2 km apart or closer, else as many as the area’s share of the run allows.
- 250 m For a few dense streets.
- 500 m For a district.
- 1 km For a town or part of a city.
- 2 km For a city.
- 5 km For a big city or a region.
Minimum rating
A sliderLeaves out places rated below this, out of 5. Places with no rating are left out too, unless this is 0.
Only the kinds searched
On or offKeeps only places whose category matches what you searched for (a category above or your own words); online maps also return places of other kinds nearby. Those are left out and not charged.
Most places
A numberOptional. Keeps only the best-rated places, up to this number, so later blocks and credits stay small. A rating counts more when many people gave it. Leave empty to keep them all.
What comes out
Each item that leaves the block carries these fields, to use in the blocks after it as {{field}}.

How to use it
New places every morning, only new
The everyday use: new places in your city every morning, ranked by xMap AI, in your inbox and on a map.
New shops on the delivery routes
A beverage distributor in Manchester wants every new grocery and supermarket on its routes the week it opens, before a competitor’s van gets there.
Before: Reps spotted new shops by chance, weeks after they opened.
With the flow: Every Sunday the route sheet has the shops that opened that week, with phone and address.
Competitors around each of my stores
Where: Around each incoming place, Pass on: Each incoming place, with a count. Every store gets places_nearby and nearest_place, so you see which ones face the most competition.
Restaurants that are not on the app yet
A food delivery app wants its sales team to call well-rated restaurants in New York that have not joined.
Match with my table keeps only the places that are not in your partner list, so the CRM gets only real prospects.
Companies hiring near you
Look for: Each place itself finds each company that is hiring on the map and adds its address, phone, website and rating.
Merchants around new malls
A payments company wants to visit shops and restaurants within 1 km of five malls that opened this year, best fits first.
Before: An analyst built the visit list by hand, one mall a week.
With the flow: The list for all five malls comes back in minutes, scored, in the CRM.
What is around a plot
A developer compares two plots before an offer: how many places of the kinds it searches (cafes, pharmacies, gyms) are within 1 km of each.
With a count, each plot comes back with places_nearby and the nearest one, ready to compare.
Every pharmacy in a city, not just the centre
A health products distributor wants the full list of pharmacies in Vancouver to plan its sales routes, edge to edge.
Before: One search at the city centre listed the pharmacies near it, and the outer districts were missing.
With the flow: A grid of searches covers the whole city, and each month only the new pharmacies are added to the sheet.
A competitor map for a launch
An agency launching a gym brand in a new district wants every gym and its rating inside the client’s target area, on one map.
Before: A junior spent two days searching and copying listings.
With the flow: The map is ready the same morning and can be shared with the client by link.
Score prospects and send them to my CRM
xMap LLM gives each place a fit score and a reason; Filter keeps the good ones, which go to your CRM and a shared sheet.
Good to know
- Only the kinds searched (on unless you switch it off) keeps the places whose category matches what you searched for: a Clinics search no longer keeps an astrologer, nor a Cafes search a crab house. With your own search words, the category or the name must have the word. The others are left out before anything is charged, and the step says how many.
- Each run searches every type and search word you pick, in each area, up to 8 areas and 96 searches in all; past that, the run says which were left out.
- Cover the whole area makes up to 40 searches a call (points x categories) and 160 a run, shared equally between the areas. A bigger area is cut into parts, the spacing is widened when the limit needs it, and an area too big even with points 10 km apart (a whole country) is searched at its centre instead. The step says when either happens.
- The search can return places from outside your area. They are dropped, so what comes out is inside the area you asked for.
- Some places come back from the online map with the point searched around as their position. Those are placed by their address when it is inside the area, and left out otherwise; the step says how many.
- Searching by city, each place’s city is the city you searched, and what the map calls its part of town is in district.
- One search in the middle of a country or a large region finds only what is near that point: pick cities, or Cover the whole area.
- Most places keeps the best rated, up to the number you set: a rating counts more when many people gave it, so a 5.0 from one review does not push out a 4.8 from hundreds. Up to 500 places come out of one block in one run.
- Around each incoming place searches around the first 8 incoming places that have a position. With a count, places closed for good are not counted.
- Look for: Each place itself looks up at most 100 places a run, by name, near where each one is. Short or one-word company names can match the wrong business, so check the first results. A long name that finds nothing is tried once more with its first two words.
- The data has no opening dates, and review counts only for some places. To get only places you have not seen before, put Only new after this block.
- Credits: 2 for each place found, plus 12 for each search sent (each category or search word, in each area, or at each point of the grid when it covers the whole area). With a count, you pay for the places found near yours; with Each place itself, for each place looked up. Your own places cost nothing.
- Runs in your account use live data, test runs included. Without an account, the home page runs one live search; other flows you build there show sample places.

- Sort and limit: Puts the items in order, and can keep only the first ones: the 10 best rated, the 20 nearest, the highest fit scores.
- Email: Sends one email per run with all the items, or one email per item.
- Show on a map: Shows the results as points on a map, with the area of interest.
