Why media & publishing teams use xMap Flows

Newsrooms and publishers need fresh local facts every day. xMap Flows turns live data into story leads: new businesses in town, store closures, hiring trends, road disruptions, port activity, heat and flood warnings. It drafts the morning newsletter, builds local listings and guides, finds advertisers that just opened, and can answer readers through a chat on your site.

Story leads take digging

Daily flows surface openings, closures, hiring and disruption in your area.

Newsletters written by hand

xMap AI drafts a morning brief from the night's data.

Advertisers found late

New businesses in your area are the most likely to advertise.

Readers ask the same things

A reader chat answers with live places and traffic.

Newsrooms, broadcasters, publishers and media sales teams who need local stories, audiences and advertisers first.

How a flow works for media & publishing

Every flow reads left to right: something starts it (a schedule, a message, an app event or new rows), it looks at an area, gathers data, lets xMap AI make sense of it, applies your rules, and sends the result where your team works. These are the blocks media & publishing templates use most.

  1. 1

    Where

Choose the area: countries, cities, a radius around your own sites, or shapes you draw.

    Area of interest

  2. 2

    Data

Bring in what is there and what is changing.

Nearby places · Weather forecast · Traffic incidents · Demographics · News

  3. 3

    AI and your rules

Score, rank, keep only what is new or fits, and match with your own data.

xMap LLM · Place classifier · AI agent · Only new · Sort and limit

  4. 4

Send each result where your team works.

Stories: what teams build

One-minute narrated stories of a flow at work. The scenarios and figures are illustrative, not customer results.

Public relations

From bad headline to the account team in minutes

The challenge. Larissa heads media monitoring at one of Sao Paulo’s largest PR agencies. She looks after forty brands. Every morning three interns read the news sites for clients’ names. A bad story posted at nine reaches the account team at three, after the client’s chief executive has seen it. Most days they read four hundred stories to find six.

The flow. With xMap Flows, Larissa built Echo. Every fifteen minutes, Echo reads Brazil’s main news feeds, keeps the stories it has not seen, picks out the ones that name a client, with its account lead, judges whether each is good or bad news, and posts it to that client’s team.

The result. A critical story about a client’s factory goes up at twelve past nine. By half past, the account team has it, marked bad news, and a statement is out by ten. The interns now write coverage reports instead of reading. Larissa’s clients used to call her with the news. Now she calls them first.

Breaking the hotel story before the cranes arrive

The challenge. Carmen runs a small news site for Lavapies and the streets around it in Madrid. Twelve thousand neighbours read it every week. The council posts planning applications and meeting agendas on pages nobody checks. She learns about a new hotel on her street when the cranes arrive, like everyone else. The big papers get the story, and her readers ask why she missed it.

The flow. With xMap Flows, Carmen built Courier. Every hour, Courier watches the council’s planning and agenda pages for new entries, reads the city’s news feeds, keeps only Lavapies and the streets around it, picks out what her readers will care about, and sends each tip to her phone.

The result. On Wednesday, Courier spots a plan for a hotel on Calle de la Fe, posted at seven in the morning. Carmen’s story is up by noon, two days before any paper. Three hundred neighbours come to the council meeting. Carmen stopped finding out when the cranes arrive. Now she breaks the news.

Selling every billboard to the brand next door

The challenge. Catalina is sales director at one of Chile’s largest billboard companies. She has sixty boards across Santiago to fill. Her team sells by calling the same big brands every quarter. Meanwhile a gym chain opens three branches beside their boards and books a rival’s screens. And nobody can tell a client which boards drivers sit in front of the longest.

The flow. With xMap Flows, Catalina built Spotter. Every Monday at eight, for each of her sixty boards, Spotter finds the brands that opened a branch within a kilometre, measures how slowly the traffic moves past it, writes why each brand should take that board, keeps the ten best matches, and turns them into slides for the sales meeting.

The result. On Monday, Spotter finds twenty-four brands that opened beside her boards. The best ten are on the slides, each with the road speed outside. Catalina’s team calls brands it had never thought of, and books four boards that week. Catalina stopped selling empty boards. Now she sells the brand next door.

Guides and decks

Questions

Can xMap Flows find local story leads?

Yes. Daily flows list new openings, closures, hiring waves, road disruption and weather warnings in your area, so reporters start with facts.

Can it write a newsletter?

xMap AI can draft a morning brief from what the flows found; an editor approves it before it goes out.

Can it help ad sales?

Yes. New businesses in your area, scored as advertisers, sent to your ad sales team.

Which data is live?

Live: xMap's places database (300M+ places of more than 5,000 kinds), live business listings from online maps, job postings, road incidents, ships (AIS), satellite pictures, weather forecasts, news from the feeds and pages you choose, travel-time areas and routes on the road network, and residents by age (Demographics, in about 100 countries), live road speeds and congestion (Traffic Flow; it does not count cars), footfall around each place (Mobility Footfall, in most of the world, about 10 days behind), plus regional datasets where xMap offers them, such as cars counted on the roads of the United Arab Emirates (Road traffic history). Catchment returns sample figures for now, and every result made from it says so.

Do I need to write code?

No. A flow is built from blocks on a canvas, from a ready-made template, or by describing it to Ask xMap in a sentence; Ask xMap builds it, tests it and fixes what fails. Developers can also use the API and the MCP server.

How fast can a media & publishing team start?

Hire one of the AI employees above: answer two questions (the city and the kind of place), or write one sentence to make it yours ("for dental clinics in Lyon, to WhatsApp every Monday"), and it runs in your own account with results you can see. A new account can also type its website and meet three AI employees already tried in its city. Or try the home page first: no account needed.

Can an agency or consultancy offer this to its clients?

Yes. Your logo and colour on the app, emails and reports, emails from your own domain, the app on your own address, and a read-only page for each client with its results, map and weekly report. See the Partners page.
