The first steel call on every new tower
Dylan heads estimating at a structural steel fabricator in New York. His team prices the steel for new buildings.
Listen to the story:
The challenge
The big jobs are won long before the tender. By the time a project reaches the papers, the general contractor already has three steel prices. Dylan’s team reads the city’s permit pages by hand, an hour each morning, and still misses half of them.
How the flow works
With xMap Flows, Dylan built Cadence. Cadence is an AI employee: a flow of 7 blocks.
Every weekday at six,
Weekdays at 6 am (Schedule)
Cadence reads the city’s new building permits,
New building permits (Web page watch)
keeps the buildings of ten floors or more,
Ten floors or more (Filter)
finds the builder behind each one,
The builder behind it (Map business scan)
skips the jobs already in his bid list,
Not bidding already (Match with my table)
estimates the steel each one needs,
The steel, roughly (xMap LLM)
and posts them to the estimators.
The estimators’ channel (Microsoft Teams)
What it solves
- An hour of reading: solved by Web page watch
- Half the permits missed: solved by Schedule and Web page watch and Filter
- Three prices already in: solved by Map business scan and xMap LLM and Microsoft Teams
The result
This Tuesday, Cadence finds a twenty-two floor tower in Long Island City, filed the day before. The builder hears from Dylan before any other fabricator. Three weeks later, his team is pricing the steel with the drawings in hand.
Dylan stopped reading about jobs he lost. Now he calls about the ones he’ll win.
An illustrative scenario: the figures are modelled to show what the flow produces, not a customer's results.
