A day care centre within a short walk

Aiko is a care manager in Tokyo. She arranges care for thirty elderly clients who live at home in Setagaya.

Listen to the story:

The challenge

When a family asks for a day care centre, she phones round for a week. The ones with places are too far for frail legs, and the near ones are full or badly reviewed. Meanwhile the family is worn out, and so is she.

How the flow works

With xMap Flows, Aiko built Hawk. Hawk is an AI employee: a flow of 6 blocks.

  1. Whenever she adds a new client,

    A new client (New rows)

  2. Hawk draws a fifteen-minute walk from their home,

    15-minute walk (Travel area)

  3. finds the day care centres inside it,

    Day care centres (Nearby places)

  4. keeps the ones rated four or more,

    Well reviewed (Filter)

  5. picks the best five,

The best five (Sort and limit)

  6. and emails the family a shortlist that evening.

What it solves

The result

Last week, a new client's daughter asked on Tuesday morning. By evening she had five centres, all within a short walk, all rated above four. Her father started on Friday. Aiko now spends that week with her clients, not on the phone.

Aiko used to search for care. Now she has time to give it.

1 dayto a shortlist, not a week
5centres within a short walk
30clients, more time for each

An illustrative scenario: the figures are modelled to show what the flow produces, not a customer's results.

The flow, block by block

  1. 1

    A new client

    New rows

Starts the flow when new rows appear in a Google Sheet or in a table in My data.

  2. 2

    15-minute walk

    Travel area

The area you can reach within a travel time (15 minutes by car) or a distance by road (10 km), on foot, by bike or by car, from each incoming place or from places you pick.

  3. 3

    Day care centres

    Nearby places

Places around a point from xMap’s own places database (300M+ places, refreshed every month): pick the types of place (more than 5,000, such as Restaurant, Cafe, Pharmacy, Hospital or Gas station, or a whole group of them) and how far to look.

  4. 4

    Well reviewed

    Filter

Keeps only the items that match a rule.

  5. 5

    The best five

    Sort and limit

Puts the items in order, and can keep only the first ones: the 10 best rated, the 20 nearest, the highest fit scores.

  6. 6

    Shortlist to the family

    Email service by Google
