Hassan owns a pharmacy in Gueliz, the new town of Marrakesh. When a heatwave hits, everyone wants the same things at once: rehydration salts, sun cream, cooling gel. His wholesaler needs three days. Last July he ran out on day two of forty-five degrees, and sent forty customers across the street. With xMap Flows, Hassan built Steward. Every evening at nine, Steward reads the week's forecast for Marrakesh, looks for days above forty-two degrees, checks his stock list for what is running low, works out how much he will need, and emails the order to his wholesaler. On Sunday night, Steward saw forty-four degrees coming on Thursday. The order went out four days early: six hundred sachets of rehydration salts, two hundred tubes of sun cream. When the heat came, his shelves were full and the queue was at his door. Hassan no longer reacts to the heat. He is ready for it.
