The evidence that got a school its crossing
Alba is the head of a primary school in Valencia, four hundred pupils, three gates on a busy road.
Listen to the story:
The challenge
Cars race past at pick up time. She had asked the council for a crossing three times. Each time the answer was the same: show us the numbers. She had none, only a near miss in March.
How the flow works
With xMap Flows, Alba built Kestrel. Kestrel is an AI employee: a flow of 5 blocks.
Every school day at a quarter to three,
School days at 2:45 (Schedule)
at each of the three gates,
The three school gates (My data)
Kestrel measures how fast the traffic moves,
Speed on the road (Traffic Flow)
works out how far over the limit it is,
Over the limit? (Calculated field)
and adds a row to her evidence sheet.
The evidence sheet (Google Sheets)
What it solves
- Cars too fast: solved by Traffic Flow and Calculated field
- No numbers to show: solved by Google Sheets
- Three requests refused: solved by Google Sheets
The result
After one term, Kestrel’s sheet showed cars passing the main gate at almost twice the limit on most afternoons. Alba sent it to the council in May. The crossing was painted in September.
Alba stopped asking for a crossing. She sent the proof instead.
An illustrative scenario: the figures are modelled to show what the flow produces, not a customer's results.

The three school gates
Brings in a table you uploaded or a list you saved on the My data page: your stores, customers, target accounts or sites.
- 3
Speed on the road
How the traffic is moving on the roads around each place, right now: the current speed and the free-flow speed in km/h, how jammed the roads are (a jam factor from 0, free, to 10, standstill), the congestion as a percentage, the level in words, how many roads were measured and closed, and the busiest road.
- 4
Over the limit?
Adds fields worked out from the others: a number, a text or a yes/no.
