What n8n is
n8n is a workflow automation tool favoured by technical teams: its source is available, it can be self-hosted, and it has many nodes, code steps and AI agent building blocks.
You host or pay for it, and you bring the data. Turning it into a location intelligence tool means choosing data providers, writing the area logic, storing what was found and building somewhere for the team to see the results.
Where xMap Flows is different
- Each flow is an AI employee with a job: a role, a timetable, a monthly budget, and a choice of how much it does alone (ask me first, act and tell me, or fully on its own). Together they work as a team: an org chart, handoffs from one to the next, a Team inbox where each reports, and a weekly review.
- Nothing to host: sign in and build.
- Live location data, AI ranking and memory across runs are blocks, not projects.
- Business users build with Ask xMap and 1,000 templates; developers still get webhooks, SQL, custom code and an API.
- AI employees with roles, budgets and approvals, and results, maps and dashboards for the people who use them.
- Organization controls built in: roles, teams with quotas, SSO and SCIM, audit log.
When n8n is the better choice
We would rather you use the right tool. N8n is likely the better fit when:
- You must self-host for policy reasons.
- Your team wants full control of every node and is happy to maintain the setup.
- Your workflows have little to do with places.
Use them together
Call an xMap Flows webhook from n8n to get ranked places back in the answer, or send xMap results into n8n for the rest of a process.
Moving to xMap Flows
- Export the n8n workflows that fetch places or map data.
- Rebuild the location part as an xMap flow with a Webhook trigger.
- Call it from n8n where the workflow needs the places.
Most teams start from a template or by describing the flow to Ask xMap.
Questions
Can developers extend xMap Flows?
Yes: Custom code, SQL on your own database, HTTP calls, webhooks in and out, the REST API and an MCP server.
Does it have AI agents like n8n?
Yes. The AI agent block uses your other blocks as tools and remembers conversations, and Reply answers in WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack or a chat page.
