AIS (ship tracking)
Radio messages ships send with their identity, position and course.
The Automatic Identification System makes ships broadcast their identity (MMSI), position, speed, course, destination and size. Receivers on shore and satellites collect the messages.
The Ships (AIS) block reads a live stream from volunteer receivers: coverage is good around busy European ports and weak in some regions such as the Gulf and the Red Sea.
