Catchment
Catchment is built to show the area each place really serves, everywhere within a few minutes’ drive or walk, and who lives inside it: the population, the households and the income band. For now it returns sample figures, not live data: every run marks them as sample, and emails and messages say which figures are sample. Use it to build and test flows that will compare sites by the people around them; the flow will not need to change when the live figures arrive.
In the editor: The area a place serves, by drive or walk time, with the population inside it. For now it returns sample figures (free).
This block returns sample figures for now, not live data.

What comes out
Each item that leaves the block carries these fields, to use in the blocks after it as {{field}}.
Added to each place (sample figures for now)
Each field comes with the matching choice under Return. The place keeps all its own fields.
population: People living inside the drive or walk time.households: Households inside it.income: The area’s income band.
How to use it
Three clinic sites, side by side
A clinic group is choosing between three sites and wants the people living within 10 minutes’ drive of each.
Before: A consultant’s report, weeks later.
With the flow: A ranked comparison the same day, to fill with real figures when the block goes live.
Households each store serves on foot
Each store gets households for its walking catchment, ready to compare with its sales.
Where to open a branch
xMap LLM weighs population and the income band around each candidate. Sample figures for now.
Families around a new school
A school group wants the households within 15 minutes’ drive of four plots before choosing where to build.
Households and income band for each plot, in one email.
People around each listing
Catchment and footfall together describe who is near a shop unit: both sample for now.
Good to know
- Sample figures for now: the numbers are made up from the settings and the place, not measured. Every run says sample data on this step, and emails and app messages say which figures are sample.
- It is free while it returns sample figures.
- Use it to design and test flows: when live catchments arrive, the same fields are filled with real figures and the flow does not need to change.
- Do not make decisions on these numbers yet.
- To compare sites today on live data, count what is around them with Map business scan (Around each incoming place, with a count).
Works well with
- Mobility Footfall: How busy the area around each place is, from xMap’s own mobility data: footfall per day, the busiest hour and day of the week, how the day splits into morning, midday, evening and late night, the trend on the week before, and where visitors come from and how they travel (trips).
- Traffic Flow: How the traffic is moving on the roads around each place, right now: the current speed and the free-flow speed in km/h, how jammed the roads are (a jam factor from 0, free, to 10, standstill), the congestion as a percentage, the level in words, how many roads were measured and closed, and the busiest road.
- Map business scan: Finds businesses on online maps live: name, category, rating, address, phone, website and whether it is open.
- xMap LLM: Tell the AI what to do in plain words.
- Sort and limit: Puts the items in order, and can keep only the first ones: the 10 best rated, the 20 nearest, the highest fit scores.
- My data: Brings in a table you uploaded or a list you saved on the My data page: your stores, customers, target accounts or sites.
- Webhook / API: Starts the flow when another system sends a POST request with a JSON body to this flow’s webhook URL.
- Email: Sends one email per run with all the items, or one email per item.
